Boxed First-Time Experience: Navigating the Gated Conversion Funnel

This case study explores our iterative approach to the "gated" entry model, a high-stakes feature requiring a delicate balance between business acquisition goals and user friction. I led the design and testing of multiple onboarding frameworks, including a high-impact, scrollable "Brochure-Gate" focused on brand storytelling and a streamlined modal highlighting core value propositions. My process began with a deep competitive analysis to establish industry UX patterns and best practices, ensuring our gated experience remained high-converting while clearly articulating the Boxed value prop.

Every feature began with an exhaustive exploration of "variations on a theme," translating conceptual sketches into structured wireframes. By mapping these iterations (both on paper and digitally) we were able to stress-test different UX patterns early, ensuring the final architecture was the most intuitive solution for the complex multi-user requirements of the Boxed ecosystem.

Here you can see the evolution from 2017 to the 2019.

This iteration represents the "Lifestyle" variant which went through A/B testing against a streamlined, text-only control.

The most recent tests measured the results of 5 different designs/experiences vs a control of no-gate.
